▲sell可用作及物或不及物动词：

1. 用作及物动词，意思是“卖”“销售”。如：

He sold me his bike.=He sold his bike to me. 他把他的自行车卖给了我。

2. 用作不及物动词，意思是“有销路”“被出售”，此时一般用主动形式表示被动意义。如：

Such goods sell well. 那样的货销路好。

The novels won’t sell. 这些小说卖不出去。

▲best-selling 取的是上面第2个意思，即侧重指“有销路的”这层意思。根据汉语也可知道，“畅销”就是指“销路好”。又如：

Their best-selling album has won three awards. 他们最畅销的唱片赢得了3个奖项。

She is writing a follow-up to her best-selling novel. 她正为她的畅销书写续集。

Last year he starred in the film adaptation of Bill Cronshaw's best-selling novel. 去年他主演了那部由比尔·克朗肖的畅销小说改编的电影。
